What types of problems with video files can Restore.Media fix?

1. Corrupted MP4, MOV, 3GP and MXF video files that cannot be played

If a video file looks good, but you cannot play it in any media player, then such a file most likely has corrupted metadata and indexes. In most cases, we can fix this.

Here is how it works:

When recording video, most cameras save video data to external storage (often an SD card), but collect metadata and indexes in internal temporary storage. When you stop recording, the camera saves this metadata along with indexes at the end of the recorded file.

Now, if something unexpectedly interrupts the recording process, your camera may not save the metadata and indexes in the video file. Here are just a few examples of how this usually happens:

  • If you forgot to press the "stop recording" button before turning off the camera
  • If the battery runs out unexpectedly while recording a video
  • When using an unsuitable or damaged flash memory card
  • If you crash the drone or drop the camera while recording
  • A car accident may cause your dash cam to fail to complete the file
  • Any other reason the video recording was interrupted

Unfinalized video files lack important metadata and cannot be played. With the help of Restore.Media you can repair such video files online.

2. Deleted videos that have been recovered but still not playable

Accidentally deleted and then "recovered" video files may have the correct name and size, but still not play. You can use Restore.Media to repair the valid part of such video files.

However, there are situations when the file is highly fragmented. As a result, the video may be completely damaged or contain debris.

If this is your case, you can make an image (.IMG) of the memory card from which you deleted the video file, upload this image to the cloud storage and send us the link by email.

For more detailed instructions on recovering deleted video files, please see this page.

Note: we do not repair distortions, freezes or artifacts in working video files

If the video is playing but contains distortion, freezes or artifacts, then this is most likely how your camera actually recorded the video. This could be the result of a glitch in either your camera or your SD card. Unfortunately, we do not repair such video files.

To prevent similar problems in the future, make sure you are using a suitable memory card that is fast enough to handle the data stream when recording video to your camera.

Also, if your video from GoPro HERO 6/7/8/9 or GoPro MAX freezes, unfortunately, we cannot recover it. More information on this issue can be found at the end of this article.

I tried several "corrupt video recovery" tools and even purchased "MOV / MP4 repair" software that cost much more than Restore.Media. I had almost given up... So glad I didn't. Your service is greatly respected, and your affordable cost is appreciated...
